Side Effects of Masturbation

Health experts have raised an alarm over the increased side effects of masturbation, including low sperm count, which can be heavily attributed to frequent masturbation in men
Side Effects of Masturbation

You probably have come across the term masturbation several times in your day-to-day activities on the web or even heard of the act among your friends and peers around you. Masturbation is a common activity that involves touching the genitals and other sensitive areas of the body for sexual arousal or pleasure. It is an act of self-stimulation with the end goal of sexual gratification.

Studies in Kenya have estimated that between 30 and 40 percent of women are reported to have masturbated in the last month. About 40 to 60 percent of men are recorded to have been involved in the act in the same period. Medically, masturbation has been prescribed to special patients to help them learn how to control their sexual urges without putting themselves at risk. People masturbate for many reasons. These include pleasure, enjoyment, fun, and tension release.

However, health experts have raised an alarm over the increased side effects of masturbation in the country. Doctor Chris Wambui, a medical expert at Health-Link Natural Clinic, believes that low self-esteem, unfocused mindset, and low sperm count can be heavily attributed to frequent masturbation in men. In this article, we look at some of the negative effects of masturbation on a man’s body.

1: Sore Genitals. When men masturbate frequently, they may suffer from a disease called edema, which is caused by continuous penis irritation. The penis swells up because of the retention of fluid in the body tissue. This only happens when excessive pressure is put on certain body parts.

2: Low sperm count. According to Dr. Chris, when men engage in the excessive habit of masturbation, the body’s capacity to build testosterone is interfered with and can be a major cause of low sperm count. This may cause you to age faster, lose muscle, get depressed, become moody, and eventually have erectile dysfunction. Men may also suffer from azoospermia (the complete absence of sperm in a man’s semen).

3: Penis Atrophy. Penis atrophy is the biological reduction in the size of manhood. The act of masturbating may affect the corpus cavernosum tissue by making it harder, and some wear out due to friction, causing the penis to shrink and leading to erectile dysfunction.

4: Rash and Redness. Masturbating too hard at the climax or tightly holding the genitals can create rashes and redness. The rashes occur due to dryness in the skin or infections brought by dirty hands or even using low-quality lubricants.

5:Low Self Esteem. According to health experts from Health-Link Natural Clinic, the major cause of boys/men avoiding socializing is because of masturbation addiction. He attributes the act to anxiety and depression in men. “Masturbation, yes, creates relaxation, but also creates a negative vibe towards themselves. Addicts become nervous around other people and make them lose their confidence,” says Dr. Chris.

6: Unfocused Minds. Masturbation addicts usually look for excuses to skip their work or study duties. They cannot focus and eventually suffer from job loss or failure in their studies. The act causes weakness in men, which makes it hard for them to concentrate.\

7: Hair Loss. Excess masturbation has been linked to hair loss and balding due to an increase in the balding hormone DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), which contributes to the development of male sex characteristics like body hair. It also makes you lose hair faster and earlier.

8: Finally, men who excessively masturbate have less sensitivity during sex and take longer to climax. This can lead to reduced firmness of the penis during erection. The act itself has been credited to over release of Dopamine commonly known as the “Pleasure chemical,” which reduces sensitivity at the dopamine receptors. This means a masturbation addict is the same as a cocaine addict; they need more and more of it to get pleasurable feelings.

How To Stop Masturbation Addiction

If you are doing daily masturbation and it has become a problem, there are techniques and strategies you can use to shake off the problem.

1: Exercise and vigorous training will bring peace of mind and better self-control of your senses.

2: Socializing or interacting with other people, as it will take your mind off masturbation for some time

3: Get involved in activities like sports, farming

4: Seek support or therapy

5: Avoid watching pornographic content
